Dear Bridget:

My sympathy and prayers go out to you and all your family members. It's obvious from the blog that she fulfilled the passage from 2Cor 4:16: "Therefore, we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day." I'll offer a Mass for the frrepose of her soul this week, and put your family on the abbey prayer list. Give Maggie a hug for me, and tell her to give you one from me, too.

Love,

Fr. Dom

"You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”

In spite of being raised by Johanne and Robert Kelly and having influenced by Carmela Molini (Nonna), Chris developed an earthy personality that was displayed by her colorful vocabulary, or as Nina so frequently reminded her, her potty mouth. She was an easy child, eager to please and eager to be included and helpful. Her easy-going personality, her acceptance of people as they were made her teen years full of friends. The O'Sullivans enlisted Chris as their "9th child" but she was the oldest. She not only befriended Mom & Dad O'Sullivan but also the kids.

Chris fit in well with my family as my friend, baby-sitter, and personal handyman/consultant. When she lived with us, she brought Michael into our family. That Christmas Santa made a mistake and came to the front door--the kids thought Santa sounded a lot like Michael.

After marriage, Chris followed Michael all over the U.S. for his various jobs. I admired her ability to settle her children, make new friends and get involved in her community. But she never lost touch with the St. Louis family. It was nothing for her to put the kids in the car and drive across the country for a family visit. Did Chris ever meet a kid she couldn't deal with?

I enjoyed my godchild--I will miss the phone calls--picking up the phone and hearing "Hi, Chicky, what's shaking?"

Lovingly,
Aunt Marge and Paul
